For most of Justice League, the world feels like it has lost something.
Superman is dead.
Batman is trying to build a team. Wonder Woman is dealing with her own past. Cyborg is struggling with the technology inside his body. And Steppenwolf is gathering the Mother Boxes for an invasion.
Then the League makes a risky decision:
Bring Superman back.
And that decision completely changes the final act.
Why Did the Justice League Resurrect Superman?
The team discovers that Steppenwolf is becoming too powerful.
Batman knows the group needs something more. After seeing Superman’s sacrifice in Batman v Superman, Bruce believes Superman is the missing piece.
Cyborg explains that the Kryptonian ship contains technology capable of interacting with the Mother Box.
So Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Flash and Cyborg take Superman’s body to the Kryptonian ship and use a Mother Box to restart his body.
It works.
But there is one huge problem.
Superman doesn’t come back as the same calm Clark Kent.
Why Superman Attacks the Justice League
When Superman wakes up, he is confused and overwhelmed.
He doesn’t recognize the heroes around him properly, and his instincts immediately turn defensive.
Batman tries to stop him.
It doesn’t go well.
Superman quickly overwhelms Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Cyborg. Even the Flash realizes that Superman is operating on an entirely different level.
This scene is important because it shows just how powerful Superman has become in comparison with the rest of the team.
But there is one person who can reach him.
Lois Lane.
Why Lois Lane Brings Superman Back
Lois arrives and talks to Clark.
The moment he sees her, Superman’s aggression disappears.
He remembers her.
That scene is more important than it might initially seem. Superman isn’t restored simply because his body has been revived. His emotional connection to Lois helps him reconnect with his human identity.
The movie’s Superman resurrection is therefore partly physical and partly emotional.
Superman vs Steppenwolf
Once Superman returns to himself, everything changes.
The League is still fighting Steppenwolf and the Mother Boxes, but the balance of power shifts dramatically.
Superman joins the battle and immediately shows why Steppenwolf had reason to fear him.
He destroys Parademons with ease, helps Cyborg separate the Mother Boxes and confronts Steppenwolf directly.
But Superman isn’t the only reason the League wins.
Each hero contributes something important.
Cyborg is essential because he can interact with the Mother Boxes. Flash provides speed and saves people. Wonder Woman and Aquaman help hold the battlefield together. Batman coordinates the team.
Superman simply gives them the overwhelming power they were missing.
What Happens to Steppenwolf?
The League successfully separates the Mother Boxes before Steppenwolf can complete their unity.
The Parademons then turn against Steppenwolf after sensing his fear.
He is overwhelmed and dragged through a Boom Tube.
The invasion ends.
Earth survives.
But the ending isn’t really about Steppenwolf.
It is about what Superman’s return means for the people around him.
How Superman's Resurrection Changes Batman
Bruce Wayne spent much of the movie blaming himself for Superman’s death.
His decision to bring Clark back is therefore more than a tactical move.
It is also an attempt to correct his biggest mistake.
Earlier, Batman feared Superman.
Now he is willing to trust him.
That is a major change from Batman v Superman.
The movie essentially completes Bruce’s first step from fear to faith.
The Final Superman Scene Explained
After the battle, Superman returns to Smallville.
He reunites with Martha and Lois and begins rebuilding his life.
Meanwhile, Bruce and Diana discuss expanding their team.
The League is no longer just a group of strangers thrown together because the world is ending.
They have become a real superhero team.
DC describes the 2017 film as the big-screen debut of this lineup, with Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg, Flash and Superman forming the central group.
What Does the Final Scene With Lex Luthor Mean?
The movie ends with Lex Luthor escaping custody.
He meets Slade Wilson, better known as Deathstroke, on a yacht.
Lex tells him that the world now has its own group of superheroes.
This is clearly setting up more conflict between Lex and the newly formed Justice League.
The theatrical movie never fully develops that storyline, but the scene establishes Lex as someone who understands that superheroes have changed the world.
Final Verdict
Rating: 4/5
Superman’s resurrection is more than a superhero comeback.
It completes the emotional journey that began with his death.
Batman learns to trust the man he once wanted to kill. Lois gets Clark back. The League finally becomes a team. And Superman returns to the world as its protector.
The final message is simple:
